So apparently my body has decided I need sleep. Which makes sense -- it's dealt with a lot recently. My migraines got progressively worse for five weeks. Then I ended up in the ER and they added an IV of morphine and something else to my already very drugged body. Then I got sick. Just a cold, but they make my migraines worse and more drugs.
My friend today said, "well scientists say you need [x] amount of sleep..." and I stopped her. That may be what healthy bodies need, but that's not me.
I'm working on learning that my body needs whatever it damn well needs. And apparently right now it needs 12 hours of sleep a night. If only I didn't have so many final papers to write...
BINGO. I used to need 8 hours of sleep (pre-headache). Now? 10, definitely. I just feel like the pain saps a lot energy!
ReplyDeleteI hope you can find time to write those papers. :)
When doctors haven't much of a clue I think listening to the body is the number one health practice. Fingers crossed you have refreshing, healing sleep and as much as you need!
ReplyDeleteI sleep when my body tells me too. My body is much smarter than the people who tell me what I should or shouldn't do.

"well scientists say you need [x] amount of sleep..." Ooo, I HATE when people say that to me. Or "you sure sleep a lot" or "why are you always so tired?" It took me years to realize I'm not lazy.
ReplyDelete(I think this may be the first time I've commented, but I've been reading for a few months now ;) Love your blog!)
I agree on so many levels! In terms of sleeping and eating...I just listen to my body. It will tell me everything I want.
ReplyDeleteI think having structured regulations for something as personal as one's body to be grossly oversimplified.
Hell, I might even write a blog post on the topic! Haha. Hope you are feeling okay these days Assiya!
Thanks for all the support y'all!
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you Keri :)
my doctor asked me how much sleep i get at an appointment a few days ago. needless to say he wasn't too pleased with the answer. ive been really trying to sleep more, but life gets in the way. i wish there was some way to balance the ridiculous demands of my body with real life!
ReplyDeleteGah yes this is so frustrating! My body needs anywhere between 9 and 12 hours of sleep a night. Sometimes when I'm really busy, I'll try to skimp and give it 6, since I could totally get by with that before I was sick. Nope. My body will have none of it. You'd have thought I got 2 hours of sleep the way I'm functioning the next day.
ReplyDeleteI hate it when people TELL me how much sleep I need to. I've had a lot of people suggest I'm not actually sick at all; I just sleep too much and oversleeping leads to fatigue! Um, thanks for your input, don't worry about calling me too much anymore. Click. I just try to listen to my body and give it what it needs, when possible.
